If you want to accept credit card payments, you will need to have your own merchant account or use PayPal. A merchant account is a specialised business bank account which allows you to accept credit card payments. Contact your local bank about the steps needed to set up a merchant account. As you won't have 'the plastic' on hand you will need a Mail Order Telephone Order (MOTO) account. Be sure to ask for this from the bank.


In order to process a credit card to transfer payment from your customer's bank account to your account, you need an Internet Merchant Account and a Payment Gateway such as Eway (www.eway.com.au) or PayPal (www.paypal.com). This will allow you to accept (or deny) credit card payments in real time. Alternatively, you can accept orders via a secure page on your own web site and process the orders manually.
